The reputable poker player, Phil Hellmuth, confidently secured his first victory at the U.S. Poker Open on Wednesday. In event No.5, Hellmuth made a straight flush on the final hand to defeat Jeremy Ausmus heads-up. He thus won the $ 211,200 first prize of the $10,000 buy-in No-limit Hold’em tournament held at the PokerGO Studio near Aria in Las Vegas.

According to Las Vegas Review-Journal, Hellmut said after the victory: “I have something. I have this thing called reading ability. And a lot of the younger generation doesn’t understand that. They see me make these plays and they’re like, ‘That’s a bad play. That’s a bad play.’ But if you know that they can’t call then I feel like it’s a great play. Sometimes they don’t give me enough credit, so it’s kind of nice.”
The final table hosted Hellmuth as fourth in chips but he presented a great play and eliminated five players out of a total of six eliminations. Hellmuth then eliminated Jesse Lonis outflopping the latter’s ace-three holding. The final hand saw Hellmuth flopping a flush against Jeremy Ausmus with a six-deuce of clubs in his hands. When Hellmuth eventually moved all-in, Ausmus called with top pair and a queen-high flush draw, but Hellmuth came up on the turn with a three of clubs, which was the winning hand.
“Jeremy is a classy guy,” Hellmuth reportedly said. “And I like him a lot. He called me out on social media for being a little bit too bratty, but he was (expletive) right. But no, there was no revenge. I was keenly aware that I finished second to him in the (2021 World Series of Poker) $50,000 Pot-limit Omaha because he had no chips. And he won like 13 all-ins in a row or something. So, I knew he would be tough.”
The First Title:
The title won at the US Poker Open is the first Hellmuth title. Also, it is his 71st documented live tournament victory including a record-winning streak of 16 WSOP wins. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal citation of Hendon Mob Poker Database, this prominent player has earned more than $28.6 million in career tournaments to date.
